This page describes coverage in general terms. Actual coverage, eligibility, and pricing depend on the policy issued by the carrier for your specific event. Read your policy carefully.

Hosting a private event off-property — at a hotel, banquet hall, restaurant, park pavilion, country club, or community center — often comes with a contract requirement: provide a certificate of insurance naming the venue as additional insured. Special event insurance solves that requirement at a fraction of the cost of an annual liability policy, and it can be purchased just for the day or days you need it.

What is special event insurance?

Special event insurance is a short-term general liability policy designed for one-time private or non-commercial events. It typically provides bodily injury and property damage coverage if a guest is hurt at the event or the venue is damaged because of something that happens during the event. Many policies also offer optional host-liquor liability for events where alcohol is served (but not sold).

Events typically eligible

Events that involve admission ticket sales, professional sports, fireworks, amusement rides, or other higher-hazard activities generally require a different type of policy — tell us about your plans on the quote form and we'll route you to the right product.

What it usually covers

How fast can I get coverage?

Most one-day special event policies can be issued within minutes after you complete the quote and pay the premium. We recommend purchasing at least a few days before the event so you have the certificate of insurance in hand to send to the venue.
